About 1075 High Carbon Steel
1075 is a high carbon steel frequently used for larger blades and swords, while also being well suited for everything from Bowie knives to kitchen knives. It is tough, durable, and hypo-eutectic, making it very forgiving during heat treatment across a wide range of quenching media commonly used by the knife-making community. This makes it a convenient choice for makers who may not have access to the specialized equipment and materials often preferred for hyper-eutectoid steels such as 1095 or W2.
Our 1075 is supplied pickled, annealed, and slightly oversized for convenient forging. We also carry it in thicknesses preferred by many stock removal makers. In addition to its durability and toughness, it is an excellent choice for pattern-welded Damascus steel when combined with 1045 or 15n20.
